Inhabit Studios Website Redesign

Inhabit Studios

UX Designer - Web & Mobile Redesign

Project Overview

The Problem

Inhabit Studios reached out to me to refresh their current website’s offerings. They had recently completed building a new studio and needed to shift the focus of the website towards the new movement workshops they would be offering. Their email and social media marketing was going to be driving users to the website, so users needed to easily see upcoming workshops and how to reserve their spot. The goal was to make Movement Workshops the focus, while still showcasing Jennie’s community dance and education work.

Process

First, I met with Jennie to understand the new focus of the website. She gave me feedback from previous users, new copy that she wanted the website to incorporate, and direction for the emotions she wanted the user to feel when they were on the site. Next, I worked to create user journeys. After identifying the issues and limitations within the current site, I created wireframes and information architecture for the new website, carefully including remedies for all pain points from my research. Next, I worked from my wireframes to create a high-fidelity prototype for Inhabit Studios to approve in Squarespace. Finally, after completing a usability study and making a few tweaks to the designs, I launched the new site.

Outcome

My approach was to simplify the navigation and streamline the homepage to focus on Movement Workshops. I needed to pay close attention to accessibility standards, specifically with the color choices. Jennie wanted colors that created grounded and earthy feelings in the user, not light and airy feelings, so that presented some challenges with acceptable contrast ratio. I made sure that each color combination we tried met contrast ratio guidelines. The result was an easy-to-navigate website that led to improved clarity for the user, and increased bookings in Inhabit Studios’ workshops.
