House of Heckler Website Redesign

House of Heckler

UX Designer - Web & Mobile Redesign

Project Overview

The Problem

I had originally created author/comedian/artist Mollie Howey’s website as a landing page for users to purchase her book, but she reached out to me for a refresh because her business was expanding. She wanted to update her site with her new business name and logo, showcase her paint portfolio for future gigs, and incorporate her author and comedian talents. The goal was to somehow combine her previous book site with her new paint and comedy offerings in a cohesive way.

Process

My process started with gathering all of the new content that Mollie wanted me to showcase on the site. From there, I worked on the new site architecture and worked to ideate on layout options. Next, I put myself in the user’s shoes by imagining what their needs might be. I came up with three separate user personas—the person wanting to book Mollie for a paint gig, the person wanting to book her for a comedy spot, and the person wanting to purchase her book. These personas guided me through their journeys as I created wireframes. Creating the website in Squarespace meant that I could quickly and easily go from wireframes to a high-fidelity prototype for Mollie to approve. Finally, after completing a usability study and making a few tweaks to the designs, I launched her new site.

Outcome

My approach was to put all of Mollie’s painting/wallcovering skills under “Haus” and all comedy/author skills under “Heckler”. I also included a link in the main navigation to purchase her book. The result was an easy-to-navigate website that led to improved clarity for the user (and increased bookings for Mollie).
